Sankofa

It is difficult to put into words how important my experience of relearning my Gullah Geechee culture has been over the past decade or so.

When that great philosopher and songstress Nina Simone sings “oh how I’ve longed to know the truth”  in Young, Gifted and Black, I feel Sankofa in my bones.  I am deeply grateful for the true culture keepers who worked and sacrificed so generations of seekers would have something to find. I pray to keep seeking and learning so I can build and leave a legacy for the next generation! #sankofa
