A Time to Lead

Happy Thanksgiving QueenSiS! This dayclean (in between meals!) I’m meditating on the spaces where I’m called to leadership.  I don’t think I ever wanted to be a leader, but I’m so glad I found the concept of Servant Leadership in my foundation work, and the concept of Womanism in my academic work.

Leadership packaged in these contexts works for me. Because the fact of the matter is the brand of leadership most often followed in the US (and often, worldwide) has not led to the kind of justice, peace, healing, beauty, joy and abundance that I want for myself and everyone else. I don’t think we will ever get there without Black women leading in unconventional ways. Like Brother John Legend said, “I searched for a leader and the leader was me.” #leadonwiththelight
